Conductors

ACSR - ALUMINIUM CONDUCTOR STEEL REINFORCED CONSTRUCTION

The mixed construction of ACSR makes it a very flexible medium from a design point of view. By varying the relative proportions of aluminium and steel the ideal conductor for any particular application can be produced. Generally, ACSR consists of a galvanized steel core of 1 wire, 7 wires or 19 wires surrounded by concentric layers of aluminium wire.

The higher strength ACSR Conductor is used for river crossings, overhead ground wires, installations involving extra-long spans. Against any given resistance of conductor, ACSR may be manufactured for having a wide range of tensile strength as per requirement. The principal advantage of these conductors is high tensile strength so that they are used for longer spans with less supports.

AAC - ALL ALUMINIUM CONDUCTORS

All - aluminium conductors are the most favoured type for use in the construction of relatively short span distribution schemes and are common use on lines for voltage up to 60 kV. AAC conductor is also known as aluminum, having purity of minimum 99.5% of aluminium (with minimum Conductivity of 61%). AAC conductor is used mainly in urban areas.

AAAC - ALL ALUMINIUM ALLOY CONDUCTORS

AAAC conductors are generally made out of aluminium alloy 6201 (Minimum Conductivity is 54%). AAAC Conductor has a better corrosion resistance and better strength to weight ratio and improved electrical conductivity than ACSR Conductor on equal diameter basis. Since AAAC has higher strength to weight ratio, span can be increased resulting in overall reduction of cost in tower and other accessories in transmission line systems.
